Motivated to Make it Happen

For about the last year I would call myself a fair-weather friend to running.  I ran several half marathons and a few relays, but I never made it the full 26.2.  It was a crazy year (see previous post) so I let up on myself and decided to run what I wanted, train minimally, and just do what I could.  Granted, I accomplished a lot by most people’s standards, but I knew I could do better and wanted to break into the more dedicated and principled methods of half and full marathon training.  With that being said, I think I’ve come to a point where I’m revving up to make this a running year.  I haven’t 100 percent decided yet, but I’m almost certain I’m going to run the Oakland Marathon on March 27, and by that, I mean the FULL Oakland Marathon.  I am giving myself the next week or so to see how my training runs go, see how I feel, and see what I can do as far as milage.  So far, so good.  I’ve run some amazing 10+ runs with Aron and some lululemon friends, and I’ve been jumping in on my client’s workouts in order to get my own workouts in.   I definitely feel a desire to push myself and make a solid commitment to training, something I haven’t felt in a while.  I really have a deep desire to just run and run well.  It’s been so long since I’ve felt this motivated!  Reflecting on what’s made this change, I realized that I have a lot of great things going on in my life that have made me more excited to reach these goals.  If you read Runners Rambles, you’ll see that we have a pretty similar post going on!  I won’t digress too much, but will say that these things are making me super, uber motivated to kick some asphalt.

Lululemon Run Club

Starting on February 1st, Aron and I are launching the lululemon Walnut Creek run club.  Simply put, it’s just a fun, social run for all level of runners.  The great part is, we have a company like lululemon to back it and make it awesome!  I truly feel so motivated and supported by this company.  They have really let me take the reigns on this project and make something great happen.  I’m so excited to get it started and see where it goes.  We will be meeting every Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the store for as long as we can successfully make this happen!

San Francisco Marathon Training Program

The SFMarathon needed some training pacers for their 26 and 18 week training programs, so Aron and I decided to get involved.  Again, one more weekly event that will get me running and keep me motivated!  Not to mention, a very cool way to meet new people and be involved in such a great race.  I’m hoping to be an actual pacer of the marathon, something I’ve wanted to do for a while.  I love leading and motivating others, and pacing a group during the course of the first marathon I ran would be so amazing.

Becoming a Certified Running Coach

Next weekend we will be heading down to So Cal to go through the Road Runners Club of America running coach certification program.  As a personal trainer, it is so beneficial to have multiple certifications, specifically certifications that have a focus.  What better cert for me to get than this one?!  I train a few runners at 24 Hour, so having this certification will be such an asset.  Not to mention all the possibilities we have of being RRCA certified.

I can’t think of many more things that could provide such great motivation.  I literally feel the energy around me when it comes to all the exciting things I have ahead.  Finding motivation has always been hard, as I’m sure it is with most of you.  Having things to look forward to and reasons to get up and get going are so crucial.  I’m so thankful to have what I do and most importantly, have the friends who are in it with me.  As I continue on with my running, I will finalize a list of races that I plan to do, and then of course share it here!
